Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee and the Board of the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS), we are very pleased to invite you to participate in the 35th International Papillomavirus Conference & Basic, Clinical and Public Health Scientific Workshops (IPVC 2023) which will take place on April 17-21, 2023 in Washington DC, USA.

This will provide the opportunity to meet with colleagues again. We hope that the relocation of the meeting will allow as many participants as possible to attend IPVC 2023, as the last International Papillomavirus Conference held as an in-person meeting was in Sydney in 2018.

Indeed, we had planned for the 2023 edition to take place in Kyoto, Japan on March 27-31. However, on August 30th, 2022, a decision had to be made either to proceed with Kyoto and the risk that delegates could not enter the country for the meeting or change the location. As of late August 2022, the borders in Japan remained closed to foreign individual travellers. IPVS and the organisers were under serious time pressure relating to the contracts and resulting financial commitments that had a fixed date for agreement. It was felt strongly that the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS) needed to make a decision by the end of August 2022 to deliver an in-person conference around March or April 2023. Our community is expecting a face-to-face conference and has made plans to attend it, hear lectures from experts, participate in discussions, meet their peers and present their work.

After a thorough review, Washington DC (USA) was identified as an adequate city to relocate IPVC 2023 to. Moving out of Japan was not an easy decision, and we are saddened that we will not be in Kyoto in 2023 as planned. We truly hope to be able to return to Japan for a future IPVC edition.

The theme of this conference is “Coming Together for HPV Elimination”. In line with the IPVS mission of addressing the most recent advances across the spectrum of PV research, conference topics will include:

  • Expanding scientific knowledge to benefit the whole community
  • Prevention of HPV infection and their associated diseases and cancers especially cervical cancer
  • The epidemiology and molecular biology of PVs
  • Animal models for the study of papillomavirus disease
  • Basic immunology and pathogenesis of PVs
  • Therapeutic and prophylactic vaccines
  • Changes in screening and HPV vaccination in Japan

With the overarching theme “Translation of research, new discoveries and education into clinical practice and public health to eliminate HPV and related diseases globally”, conference participants will hear about the latest research findings, scientific news, best practice updates and get opportunities for educational and networking exchanges.

The conference has been structured around 3 main tracks: Basic Science, Clinical Science and Public Health, Epidemiology, & Implementation Science. The Scientific Committee has been working hard to assemble an excellent line-up of speakers across workshops, keynote and plenary lectures but you can also expect to hear about the latest research results with the oral and poster sessions covering papillomavirus (PV)-related topics from basic science to global health impact.

Participants can expect a unique and memorable experience in the United States of America’s capital, with its captivating national museums and memorials, and a rich and diverse cultural and culinary scene.

We look forward to seeing you in Washington DC!

Yours Sincerely,
