Anna R. Giuliano, PhD, is the founding director of the Center for Immunization and Infection Research in Cancer (CIIRC) at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Dr Giuliano’s career had its inception in the relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and cervical cancer, and has evolved over the past 30 years to encompass penile, anal, and oral cancers in men, as well as other infectious diseases and their causal relationships with various cancers. Her work has contributed significantly to our understanding of HPV natural history and to HPV vaccine protection against multiple diseases in women and men.
An expert in the field of cancer research she has led numerous studies conducted globally. Dr Giuliano was a contributor to the 1999 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report titled The Unequal Burden of Cancer and the 2005 International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) report that concluded for the first time that HPV is a cause of multiple cancers in women and men. In 2013, at the American Cancer Society (ACS) 100th anniversary, she was the recipient of the ACS Distinguished Achievement in Cancer Award. In 2018, she was selected for the ACS Clinical Research Professor Award for “Prevention of Infection-Related Cancers.” In 2019, Dr. Giuliano received the American Society of Preventive Oncology (ASPO) Fraumeni Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr Giuliano has authored >400 peer-reviewed publications.

Ryo Konno

Prof. Konno MD, PhD (Thesis: Progression of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix from CIN with HPV: A retrospective follow-up study by in situ hybridization and polymerase chain reaction. John Doorbar

John Doorbar is Professor of Viral Pathogenesis in the Department of Pathology at the University of Cambridge, having worked previously at the National Institute for Medical Research in London. He obtained his PhD in Cancer Studies at Birmingham, and his first degree in Genetics & Microbiology at the University of Leeds. He has devoted much of his career to understanding how the human papillomavirus life cycle is organised, and how interactions between the virus and the infected epithelial cells drive the development of neoplasia and cancer. His current research addresses the mechanisms of lesion formation and regression, and the way that human papillomaviruses modulate epithelial homeostasis to facilitate virus persistence. His research group is focusing on the biology of the cervical transformation zone, and the molecular and cellular processes that make this particular epithelial site vulnerable to HPV infection and neoplastic progression.

Mayumi Nakagawa

Mayumi Nakagawa, M.D., Ph.D., graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, U.S.A where she studied structure-function relationships of Class I Major Histocompatibility Complex. She completed her residency training in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco where she began her studies of cell-mediated immunity against HPV. After joining the faculty at University of Arkansas for Medical Science in 2004, Dr. Nakagawa continued her research pursuits in the area of HPV immunology and continued to provide patient care as an Attending Physician for the Transfusion Medicine service in the Department of Pathology. In her research laboratory, her team discovered that patients naturally infected with HPV do better when they can mount T-lymphocyte responses against HPV 16 E6 protein. This discovery led to the design of a therapeutic vaccine for treating patients with high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion. A Phase I clinical trial demonstrated safety, and the Phase II clinical trial is expected to reach its primary endpoint in August 2022. Currently, Dr. Nakagawa is a Professor of Pathology, a Co-Leader of Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and a Drs. Mae and Anderson Nettleship Endowed Chair in Oncologic Pathology.

He is the Editor-in-Chief of Preventive Medicine (2013-22), Senior Editor of eLife (2012-pres), and incoming Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (from 2023). He is Officer of the Order of Canada and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. He is Foreign Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.

Ann Burchell

Dr. Ann Burchell is Research Director at the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Scientist at the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto. She is a Canada Research Chair in Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention. She holds degrees in epidemiology from the University of Toronto (MSc) and McGill University (PhD) and has academic appointments as Associate Professor, Department of Family and Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, and Division of Epidemiology, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto; Adjunct Professor, Division of Cancer Epidemiology, McGill University; and Adjunct Scientist, Institute for Clinical Evaluative Medicine, Toronto.

Dr. Burchell’s research program focuses on the epidemiology of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Its goal is to generate evidence for effective and practical strategies to prevent STIs and STI-related cancers in high-risk populations, including people living with or at risk for HIV.

She has extensive methodological experience in the design and implementation of: observational longitudinal studies with primary and secondary data; sexual behaviour and health-access questionnaires; natural history studies using laboratory markers of infection; and pragmatic randomized trials for HPV prevention and improved screening for syphilis, cervical and anal cancer. She currently holds a Foundation Grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

Laia Alemany

Laia Alemany holds a Medicine degree (University of Barcelona-UB, 2000), a speciality in Preventive Medicine and Public Health (Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, 2005), a Master in Epidemiology and Public Health (Pompeu Fabra University-UPF, 2005), and a Master in Molecular Oncology (Spanish National Cancer Research Center-CNIO, 2017).
After her training at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in preventive medicine, in 2005 she received a fellowship from the Spanish Association of Vaccines-AEV to perform a half-year stay at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Argentina working on surveillance of immunopreventable diseases. After that, in 2006 she joined the Consorci d’Atenció Primària de Salut Barcelona Esquerra, where her main task was giving support to research, educational and management activities.
In 2007, she joined the Cancer Epidemiology Research Program (PREC) of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO/IDIBELL), where she carried out her research into the causal relationship of the human papilloma virus (HPV) and anogenital and head and neck cancers. Her main activity was the coordination and participation in research activities within an international study on HPV and related cancers, involving more than 20,000 cancer samples recruited and analysed.
Based on this project, in 2016 she obtained her PhD with the thesis entitled ``Human Papillomavirus DNA Prevalence and Type-Specific Distribution in Invasive Cancers of the Cervix, Vulva, Vagina, Anus, Penis and Head-Neck``, which was awarded by the University of Barcelona and the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain. As part of her PhD program, in 2013 she stayed 3 months at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ, Heidelberg) supported by a scholarship from the Spanish Association Against Cancer-AECC.
Since 2016 she is Head of the Unit of Molecular Epidemiology and Genetics in Infections and Cancer (UNIC EMG) and in 2018 she became Head of the Cancer Epidemiology Research Programme (PREC) and Research Team Head in CIBERESP (Institute of Health Carlos III-ISCIII), a network of multidisciplinary research teams from different institutions and universities working in epidemiology and public health.
Her current research topic is on endometrial and ovarian cancer prevention, anal cancer prevention; and particularly, the natural history from oral HPV infection to head and neck cancers, with a special focus on epidemiology and prevention.

Susanne Krüger Kjaer

Susanne Krüger Kjaer is a medical doctor and professor in cancer epidemiology at Dept. of Gynecology, Rigshospitalet, University of Copenhagen and the Danish Cancer Society. The research is focused on gynecological cancer. She is heading a group working on early detection and prevention of cancer by identification of lifestyle, socioeconomic, and genetic risk factors, and biomarkers to prevent cancer development and improve survival from cancer. The main part of the research falls within molecular biological epidemiology with most of the studies being multidisciplinary. She has established large population-based cohorts with collection of information on lifestyle factors as well as biological samples.

Iwao Kukimoto

I was born in Kagoshima and grew up in Yokohama, Japan. I graduated from the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo and received my PhD in Pharmacy in 1996. I then started working at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), where I stayed in the U.K. as a postdoctoral fellow from 2001 to 2003 to study the basic biology of chromatin remodeling factors. Since 2007, as a laboratory head of Pathogen Genomics Center at NIID, I have been working on basic scientific research on Human Papillomavirus (HPV). My research focuses on the genomics and evolution of HPV. Our lab is also responsible for quality control and lot release of HPV vaccines distributed in Japan.

Joel Palefsky

M.D., C.M., F.R.C.P.(C). Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. His interests include the molecular biology, treatment, pathogenesis and natural history of anogenital human papillomavirus infections, particularly in the setting of HIV infection. He is the director of the world's first clinic devoted to prevention of anal cancer, the Anal Neoplasia Clinic Research and Education Center at the UCSF Cancer Center. He is the chair of the Anal Cancer /HSIL Outcomes Research (ANCHOR) Study, a national multi-site NIH study designed to determine whether treatment of anal cancer precursor lesions prevents the development of anal cancer. He is the founder and past president of the International Anal Neoplasia Society and is the past president of the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS). Staci Sudenga

Dr. Staci Sudenga is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Epidemiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Sudenga’s research focuses on infections and cancer, the natural history of infections, and the synergy between infections. Dr. Talía Malagón is an epidemiologist, mathematical modeller, and academic associate in the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology at McGill University. Her research projects include understanding the predictors of human papillomavirus transmission between sexual partners, risk factors for cervical precancer, and decision modeling to evaluate the balance of screening harms and benefits of cervical cancer screening, and health inequalities in cancer incidence and cancer care pathways. This includes developing and implementing public health surveillance systems in Australia and internationally and evaluating vaccination and screening strategies for preventing HPV and related diseases. Since 2014, Dr Machalek has led the development and implementation of a National HPV Monitoring Program that is evaluating the long-term impact of Australia’s HPV vaccination program on HPV infections in Australia. She is also an investigator on a world-first project that is measuring the impact of reduced HPV vaccine dose schedules in South African adolescent girls.

Biography
Su Pei Khoo graduated from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia with a bachelor’s degree in
pharmacy. She is a fully fledged pharmacist under the Ministry of Health before
embarking her postgraduate training at the Universiti Malaya. Her postgraduate
research serves to address the three pillars of cervical cancer elimination set out by
WHO in the Malaysian setting. This includes modelling the impact of HPV vaccination
in the population, improving cervical screening coverage via self-sampling HPV
testing, refining the clinical pathway of an abnormal screen and addressing the stigma
related to cervical screening areas. She was awarded the Global Student Ambassador
under the This is Public Health (TIPH) Global Grant Programme by the Global Network
for Academy of Public Health to raise awareness on cervical cancer prevention in
Malaysia. Other than her research projects, she is currently involved in the operations
of Program ROSE under the ROSE Foundation.

Shangying Hu

Talía Malagón

Dr. Talía Malagón is an epidemiologist, mathematical modeller, and academic associate in the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology at McGill University. Her research projects include understanding the predictors of human papillomavirus transmission between sexual partners, risk factors for cervical precancer, and decision modeling to evaluate the balance of screening harms and benefits of cervical cancer screening, and health inequalities in cancer incidence and cancer care pathways. Dr. Malagón is a member of the McGill Department of Oncology COVID-19 and Cancer Program, whose goal is to generate evidence to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer-related services across its network and inform decision-making for the resumption and improvement of cancer-related services. Dr. Malagón has a Ph.D. in epidemiology from Université Laval (2016). She teaches graduate-level and resident courses in cancer epidemiology in the Departments of Oncology and the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health. She is a senior editor of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention (2022-), a reviewing editor at eLife (2020-), and a Board member of the International Papillomavirus Society.

Sofia Tsiapakidou - Greece Short CV Current Executive Member of ENTOG (European Network of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology), European representative of WATOG (World Association of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynecology), National Representative of the Hellenic Committee in Obstetrics and Gynecology. A 5-th year resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with Head of Department Professor Grigoris Grimbizis. Since 2017 is a Ph.D. candidate at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, School of Medicine, Surgical Sector in Benign Gynecology – Urogynecology and has publications in international and national journals as she has participated in clinical trials. During her carrier has been funded and attended several international short-term fellowships in famous international centers. Loves traveling and tasting international cuisines. Andreia Albuquerque

Andreia Albuquerque MD PhD, is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest on early detection and anal cancer prevention.

She has developed an Anal Neoplasia Clinic in Portugal (Porto) and also worked as a Researcher and Honorary Consultant at the Homerton Anal Neoplasia Service (London) and as a Senior Fellow and Locum Consultant at St. James's University Hospital (Leeds).

In 2019, she completed a PhD on anal precancerous lesions, focusing on biomarkers and epidemiology. She has more than 70 papers published in peer-review journals. She is currently a member of the research group CI-IPOP@RISE, Portuguese Oncology Institute of Porto (IPO-Porto), Portugal.

She has served as an International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS) Board of Directors member and as a Co-chair of the IANS Spanish-Portuguese Task Force. She is an Affiliate Board member of the International Papillomavirus Society, a member of IPVS Early Career Working Group and a member of IPVS Social Media Task Force.

Dipanwita Banerjee

I am a Gynaecological Oncologist by profession and presently attached with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, one of the premier institute of clinical health care in India. I have more than 30 publications in HPV related cancers with special focus on cervical pre cancers and cancer. I have worked as a Principal Investigator of various community based cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination projects and presented my original work in various national and international conferences including UICC world congress, 2014, and FIGO world congress, 2015. I am the former principal investigator of the indigenous HPV vaccine trial developed by Serum Institute of India which is soon going to be introduced in commercial market. I am a IFCPC IARC certified colposcopist and also a trainer for their distance learning course on cervical cancer prevention. I have attended IARC summer school on Epidemiology and Cancer Research course in Lyon, France. I have also worked as a United Nation consultant and provided technical assistance in developing nation-wide cervical cancer screening guideline and setting up colposcopy clinic in various countries.

Matthew Ferreira

Matthew is native to Rhode Island (USA). He received his Bachelor's degree with honors in Biology at Texas State University (USA) where he defended a thesis demonstrating the use of LEGOs as a teaching tool for biology courses. He then defended his Master's and Doctoral degrees, in Portuguese, at the University of São Paulo in the field of tumor metabolism. Currently carrying out his post-doctoral research in Brazil, Matthew broadened his horizons to investigate genetic variants of HPV-16 in men and their epidemiological implications and is a member of the IPVS community as an Early Career Researcher.
